Why Does My Nose Run When I Cry?

Some tears drain from the eyes into the nose, so crying can make the nose wet too.

The whole story

1. On a sunny morning, Mina stacked blue blocks on the living-room rug.

2. The tall tower tipped, and Mina's tears slipped down her cheeks.

3. Mina dabbed her cheeks, then touched the wet tip of her nose.

4. Mina asked her father, “Why does my nose run when I cry?”

5. Her father pointed gently from his eye toward the inside of his nose.

6. He explained that tiny tear paths lead from the eyes toward the nose.

7. Mina watched a tear gather, shine, and disappear through that tiny path.

8. Mina sniffed once, then built a shorter tower beside her father.
