2. He moved the notebook closer. The bright patch moved too. “Where does the light come from?” he wondered.
3. Ibn al-Haytham gathered bowls, mirrors, candles, and cloth. He would test the light instead of guessing.
4. First, he tilted a mirror. The beam bounced onto the wall. Then he covered a small hole and watched what changed.
5. Through a tiny hole, light made a picture on the far screen. The picture was upside down. Ibn al-Haytham blinked, then smiled.
6. He tested another idea. Perhaps the eye sent out rays. But the mirror showed a garden even when the eye stayed still.
7. Light came from the garden, through the opening, and into the room. It carried the garden’s shape with it.
8. He repeated each test and wrote down what happened. A good experiment could answer a question more clearly than a clever guess.
9. At last, he understood. Light entered the eye from the world. The eye received the picture instead of sending it out.
10. Ibn al-Haytham studied light with experiments and helped explain how eyes see the world around them. The sunbeam had led him to a new way of seeing.
