Yuri Gagarin Saw Earth as One Blue Home

Yuri Gagarin became the first person to travel into space and saw Earth from above as a small, shared planet.

The whole story

1. Before sunrise, Yuri Gagarin stood in a quiet field and watched a rocket point toward the sky. He held a notebook and pencil.

2. For years, Yuri trained his body and mind. He practiced buttons, charts, and calm breaths. He wanted to learn what Earth looked like from above.

3. On the morning of April 12, 1961, Yuri climbed into the Vostok spacecraft. The little cabin was crowded, but his thoughts were clear.

4. The rocket lifted with a mighty roar. Yuri pressed back into his seat as the ground grew smaller.

5. Then Yuri was weightless. His pencil floated beside him, and he laughed softly. Outside the window, the sky turned deep blue.

6. Below him floated Earth. Blue oceans, white clouds, and green land curved together like one bright marble.

7. Yuri searched for borders, but none appeared. From space, people shared one small home beneath the clouds.

8. Yuri wrote what he could remember: the shining horizon, the endless sky, and the beautiful blue world below.

9. After one trip around Earth, the Vostok began its journey home. Yuri carried a new view of the world with him.

10. Yuri Gagarin became the first person to travel into space. From above, he saw Earth as a small, shared planet—a blue home for everyone.
