The Tree That Drinks Through Its Toes

A tree takes water in through its roots and carries it up the trunk to feed the leaves.

The whole story

1. On a sunny morning, Mina carried water to the little apple tree.

2. Mina poured the water around the trunk, not on the leaves.

3. Mina pressed the wet soil and wondered where the water went.

4. The puddle sank slowly, and the tree's roots reached through the soil.

5. The tiny roots took in the water through their many little tips.

6. From the roots, water climbed through tiny pathways inside the trunk.

7. The water reached the branches, where the leaves waited in the sun.

8. Mina smiled as the leaves lifted their green faces to the light.

9. Now Mina knew the tree drank through its toes beneath the ground.

10. A tree takes water in through its roots and carries it up the trunk to feed the leaves.
