The Boy Who Shouted About a Wolf

A shepherd boy keeps calling for help as a joke, and when he truly needs help no one believes him at first.

The whole story

1. Early one morning, a shepherd boy watched his sheep above the village.

2. He cupped his hands and shouted, “Wolf! A wolf is chasing the sheep!”

3. The villagers hurried up the hill, but the boy laughed at their worried faces.

4. “There was no wolf,” the boy said, and the villagers walked home.

5. After lunch, the boy shouted again, “Wolf! Please help us!”

6. The villagers came once more, and the boy laughed even harder.

7. Near sunset, a real gray wolf stepped quietly from the trees.

8. The boy shouted, “Wolf! This time, I truly need help!”

9. The villagers heard him, but they stayed below and did not come.

10. The boy guided the sheep behind a fence until the villagers finally arrived.

11. The sheep were safe, but the boy's true call had come too late.

12. That night, the boy promised to tell the truth before asking for help.
