8. Afternoon passed, but the bridge stayed broken and the friends stayed away.
9. Then Squirrel returned with a strong branch and placed it nearby.
10. Beaver came after lunch, and the three friends fitted the plank.
11. The hare carried the berries across while Squirrel and Beaver watched.
12. A few true helpers crossed the bridge, and the berries tasted sweeter.
