The Crow Drops Pebbles in the Pitcher

A thirsty crow cannot reach the water, so she drops pebbles in one by one until the water rises.

The whole story

1. On a hot morning, a thirsty crow searched the sunny garden for water.

2. She found a clay pitcher, but the water rested far below the rim.

3. The crow stretched her beak down, but she could not touch the water.

4. The crow sat still, then noticed smooth pebbles beside the pitcher.

5. She picked up one pebble and held it above the pitcher.

6. She dropped the pebble in, and the quiet pitcher gave a small sound.

7. The crow carried another pebble and dropped it into the pitcher.

8. One by one, she carried pebbles and dropped them into the pitcher.

9. At last, the water rose high enough for the crow to reach it.

10. The crow drank the cool water, one careful sip after another.
