The Peacock Wants the Nightingale's Song

A peacock wishes for another bird's voice and learns that his own bright feathers are special too.

The whole story

1. At sunrise, a male peacock opened his bright tail beneath the flowering trees.

2. Then a small nightingale sang, and every leaf seemed to listen.

3. The peacock listened closely and wished his voice could sound so sweet.

4. He tried to sing like the nightingale, but his loud call startled the pond.

5. The peacock sat beneath the fig tree and tucked away his shining feathers.

6. The nightingale said, “Your feathers make a beautiful song for the eyes.”

7. The peacock lifted his tail, and the nightingale sang beside its colors.

8. The peacock still loved the nightingale’s song, and he loved his own bright feathers too.
