The whole story

1. On an autumn morning, Squirrel filled his basket beneath the old oak tree.

2. He buried one acorn beside a gray stone and patted the soft earth.

3. He buried another under fern leaves, then carried three more toward the hill.

4. A gust scattered the leaves, and Squirrel forgot which hiding place was his.

5. Winter covered the ground, but Squirrel searched beside every tree.

6. He lifted snow with both paws, yet no acorn waited below.

7. In spring rain, green shoots curled from the earth beneath the oak.

8. Squirrel sniffed the tiny leaves, then hurried away to search for acorns.
