When the Tower Fell on Purpose

A child feels angry when a block tower crashes, and learns to say what happened before building a shorter, stronger one.

The whole story

1. On Saturday morning, Maya built a tower beside the sunny window.

2. Maya made the tower taller, block by block, and held her breath.

3. Then the tower leaned too far, and every block crashed down.

4. Maya clenched her hands and pushed the blocks away from her.

5. Maya sat very still while her caregiver waited beside her.

6. Maya pointed to the blocks and said, “My tall tower fell down.”

7. Maya named what happened, and her tight hands slowly opened.

8. Maya began again, choosing a wide block for the bottom.

9. She made the bottom wide, then pressed each block down firmly.

10. The shorter tower stayed steady, and Maya was ready to build again.
