The whole story

1. Maya hurried to the bathroom because snack time was near.

2. Maya splashed her hands quickly, then reached for the soap.

3. Maya pumped once, rubbed twice, and turned toward the kitchen.

4. The soap bubbles ran away before Maya had scrubbed her hands clean.

5. At the table, Maya found a little smear hiding in her palm.

6. Maya went back and began with water, wetting every part of both hands.

7. Maya added soap and rubbed her palms until the bubbles grew.

8. She scrubbed her palms, fingers, thumbs, and the backs of her hands.

9. Maya rinsed away the soap, bubbles, and hidden crumbs.

10. Then Maya dried her hands well, including the spaces between her fingers.

11. Maya returned to snack with clean hands and a ready apple slice.

12. Maya knew the little steps now: wet, soap, scrub, rinse, and dry.
