3. "How do you stay up there?" Vela asked. Aunt Suri held her wings open and pointed toward the sunlit ground.
4. "The ground warms the air," said Aunt Suri. "That warm air rises, and it can lift us like an invisible elevator."
5. Vela spread her wings over the sun-warmed rocks. A gentle lift reached her feathers, and her feet left the stone.
6. She held her wings wide. Higher and higher she circled, using the rising air instead of tiring herself with flaps.
7. From high above, Vela noticed a tiny patch of food beside a quiet stream. Her sharp eyes had found what the valley hid.
