6. She tried one more test. With both palms pressed down, she imagined warmth leaving her skin and entering the cubes. Her hand over the metal cooled quickly, while her hand over the wood stayed warmer.
7. The thermometer had measured temperature, but Mina’s skin had sensed the speed of heat transfer. Metal lets heat travel through it quickly, carrying warmth away from her hand. Wood slows that journey.
