The Dragon Who Practiced Whispering Smoke

A gentle dragon keeps puffing too much smoke at bedtime, then learns slow breaths can make soft clouds instead.

The whole story

1. At moonrise, the dragon practiced making a whisper of smoke above its bed. It wanted one soft cloud for bedtime.

2. The dragon puffed again. Too much smoke rolled across the blankets and bumped the bedtime bell off the pillow.

3. The room grew cloudy, so the dragon opened the window. Fresh night air slipped in, and the smoke drifted outside.

4. The dragon sat on the step and found a pale feather in the grass. It tried to blow the feather gently, but the feather flew straight into a bush.

5. The dragon tried a different way. It breathed in slowly until its belly grew round, then breathed out slowly until the feather trembled.

6. The dragon breathed in slowly. Then it breathed out slowly. A small cloud floated above the pillow, soft as a feather.

7. The dragon took one slow breath in and one slow breath out. Soft clouds floated above the bed, and the dragon slept beneath them.
