The Last Light That Stayed Until No One Needed It

A small bedside light worries about going dark, then understands its job is complete when the room feels peaceful.

The whole story

1. At bedtime, the little light pulled its brass chain. Its golden glow filled the room. It hoped it could stay awake all night.

2. Mina climbed into bed with her soft rabbit tucked under one arm. “Please stay until I am asleep,” she said. The little light shone a little brighter.

3. Rain tapped the window. A coat on the chair made a tall shape on the wall. Mina held her rabbit close, and the little light stretched its glow across the floor.

4. Mina touched the little light’s hand. “I know you are here,” she whispered. The coat was only a coat, and the room made space for a small, steady glow.

5. Mina’s breathing grew slow and even. The little light kept shining, though its tiny hands held the chain. It wondered what would happen when its glow was gone.

6. Morning began as a pale stripe beneath the curtain. Mina slept, and the room was still. No corner asked for brightness anymore.

7. The little light let its glow grow small. Mina stayed asleep, safe and peaceful. Then the light went dark, because no one needed it anymore.
