The Night Bus That Stopped for Every Yawn

An imaginary night bus collects yawns from homes, trees, and animals until the whole route grows peacefully sleepy.

The whole story

1. At bedtime, Mina pressed her nose to the window. A midnight-blue bus had stopped beneath the moon.

2. Mr. Moon opened the bus door. “We collect yawns,” he said. Mina grabbed her satchel. “Then I am coming too.”

3. The bus stopped at every home. Yawns floated from pillows and chimneys into a soft brass basket.

4. The bus stopped for the trees, too. The old oak gave one enormous yawn, and its leaves settled like green blankets.

5. The bus stopped for the animals. A cat yawned, a cow sighed, and three sheep forgot which number came next.

6. At the last cottage, every lamp was on. The family tried to yawn, but their mouths stayed small and round.

7. Mina sat quietly and listened to the night. Then her own yawn opened wide, and the cottage yawned back.

8. The yawn slipped into the basket, and every yawn slipped into the night. Soon, the whole route was peacefully sleepy.
