1. At bedtime, Mina carried her blue cup to the kitchen for a drink of water. The hallway waited beyond her open door.
2. A long shadow stretched across the rug. Mina stopped with one slipper in the air.
3. Mina held the cup tight. The lumpy shadow looked as if it had swallowed a hat.
4. Mina switched on the little lamp. The shadow shrank, but it did not disappear.
5. Then Mina made a circle with her fingers. Her shadow grew a nose as round as a button.
6. Mina lifted both hands like rabbit ears. The shadow rabbit wore the crooked hat and looked ready to tell a joke.
7. The rabbit bowed to a shadow teapot. Mina laughed so hard that a little water splashed from her cup.
8. Mina filled her cup and smiled at the hallway. The moonlight turned the shadows into silly shapes that bowed and faded.
