2. Maya touched her right ear. The reflection touched its left-looking ear. Why did the mirror copy her backward?
3. To test the mirror, Maya placed a blue cup on her left. In the glass, the cup appeared on her right.
4. Next, Maya shone her flashlight at the mirror. The beam reached the glass and came straight back toward her hand.
5. Maya found a cardboard arrow and held its point toward the mirror. The point faced the glass, while the back faced Maya. In the reflection, the point still faced the glass.
6. The flashlight gave Maya a clue. Light did not turn sideways. It went to the shiny surface and came back.
7. Maya looked at her hands again. The mirror had not traded left for right. It had shown a front facing her, while her own front faced the glass.
