The Bedtime Thought That Would Not Sit Still

A child with racing thoughts learns to park worries with a note, a breath, and a plan to revisit them tomorrow.

The whole story

1. Maya climbed into bed with her red toy rocket tucked under one arm. It was bedtime, but her thoughts had other plans.

2. Did Maya pack her art folder? Where was the library book? What if rain spoiled soccer? The thoughts bounced like popcorn.

3. Maya turned over. Then she turned back. The pillow became a boat, the blanket became a tent, and sleep stayed far away.

4. Maya called for Dad. He came in softly and sat beside her. “My thoughts will not sit still,” Maya whispered.

5. Dad gave Maya a notepad. She drew each worry as a tiny knot and wrote one word beside it. Then she placed the note in a little basket.

6. “Now let us give the worries a place to wait,” said Dad. Maya breathed in slowly. She breathed out even more slowly.

7. Together, they made a plan for tomorrow. The art folder would go in the backpack. The library book would wait by the door. An umbrella could handle the rain.

8. Maya put the note in its basket, took one more slow breath, and closed her eyes. The thoughts could wait there until tomorrow.

9. The thoughts did not disappear. They simply had a note, a breath, and a plan. By morning, Maya would visit them again.
