1. Maya pressed her hand against the park gate. She wanted to race to the tallest climbing tower.
2. “Not yet,” said Mum. “We stay where I can see you.” Maya pointed at the tower. “But I can see it.”
3. Maya sat on the bench and tapped her shoe. The rule felt unfair.
4. Maya took a breath. “Why do I have to stay here? I feel left out.”
5. Mum pointed to the tower. “The tall bars can be hard to see from the gate. I need to stay close enough to help.”
6. Maya looked again. Mum could see the low stepping stones from a nearby bench. “Could we make a plan?” Maya asked.
7. They made a plan. Maya could use the low stones while Mum watched from the bench. Maya tried the first stone.
8. Maya still wanted the tall tower. Mum listened. “I know no can feel unfair,” she said. “Sometimes care sounds like no.”
9. Maya nodded slowly. The rule had not changed, but now she knew why. She stepped onto the stones, with Mum close enough to help.
10. Maya leaned against Mum. “Next time I will ask why,” she said. Mum smiled. “And I will listen.”
