3. The doors closed with a soft hush. Then the elevator stopped.
4. The lights stayed on, but Mrs. Patel squeezed her bag. “Oh dear,” she whispered.
5. Nico took one careful breath and pressed the emergency call button.
6. “We are safe,” Nico said. “Let us breathe slowly and wait for help.”
7. Nico counted five slow breaths. Mrs. Patel counted five oranges.
8. A voice answered through the speaker. Help was coming soon.
9. To fill the quiet, Nico read a funny page about a penguin who wore socks.
10. Soon, the elevator gave a little ding. The doors opened, and help was there.
11. Mrs. Patel handed Nico an orange. “Your small help was very useful,” she said.
12. Nico smiled all the way home. Small helpers can still be very useful.
