The Library Book That Came Back With Sand

A sandy library book sends two friends on a pretend rescue across deserts and seas before they repair the real torn page.

The whole story

1. Maya returned her library book on a bright afternoon. When she opened it, a little sand spilled into her hand.

2. Maya called her friend Leo. Leo brought a magnifying glass. They found sand between the pages and a long tear near a picture of a boat.

3. “A rescue boat!” said Leo. They spread a blue blanket across the floor and sailed toward the torn page.

4. The sea became a desert. Cushions became dunes. They crossed the sand, then sailed again, searching for the missing piece.

5. At last, Leo found the missing piece beneath a cushion. It was not treasure. It was the torn page.

6. Maya brushed away the sand. Leo lined up the edges. Together, they repaired the page with library glue.

7. The page dried smooth, with one tiny crease. Maya returned the book again, and this time, not a grain of sand came out.

8. Maya and Leo read the story from the beginning. The book had traveled across deserts and seas, but its best adventure was coming home.
