3. Beneath the oak, Poppy found a wooden acorn tied to a blue ribbon. Its painted arrow pointed toward the garden, and the children hurried after it.
4. At the garden shed, everyone shook buckets, peered under pots, and called at once. Mara held the map close, but her small suggestion vanished in the racket.
5. Then Mara heard it: ting. She knelt beside the ivy and held her breath. A sound as small as a raindrop came from somewhere under the wooden bench.
6. Mara raised one hand. When the group grew quiet, she pointed beneath the bench. A tiny brass bell rested there, tied to a blue ribbon.
7. The ribbon curled across the garden stones. At its end, the bell gave one faint ring beside the reading tree. This time, every child heard it.
8. Under the reading tree, the ribbon disappeared beneath a flat wooden board. Mara lifted the board, and a painted treasure box waited in the warm patch of sun.
